B Sankar Mahadevan

Sankar Mahadevan is the definition and soul of Udhavum Ullangal (Helping souls) which is a vision come to reality due to the immense amount of hard work and dedication that he has shown towards this organization and towards life itself.

He was a living the life of a successful banker supporting the needs of his family and volunteered for other non-profit organizations, where he encountered experiences of poor children not having a fair chance at education, people suffering from the diseases like cancer affected children living without basic amenities like proper food and clothing. These experiences provoked him to make profound changes in his life, making him to reevaluate his paradigm.

At the age of 53, he decided to quit his position in the Bank and embark on a life’s journey of helping others. This personal transformation in led to the birth of Udhavum Ullangal, paving the way to contribute to the society and becoming a place for other like – minded people to join and together bring joy to people’s lives.

His efforts started with taking small steps towards bringing happiness to orphaned underprivileged children where with the help of sponsors, the children were provided with delicious, sumptuous meals and new clothing during Deepavali (Festival of lights) every year. From there on, he has led the Udavum Ullangal team by making strides in current deficits like educating children, woman empowerment, disaster relief and cancer prevention efforts.

Sankar Mahadevan’s biggest dream is to make the Nellai Cancer prevention care a reality-where a Cancer hospital is to be constituted and treatment is made readily available for the disease in an affordable and holistic manner. Prema has dedicated her life to serving others and when she participated in Udhavum Ullangal’s outreach events Ananda Deepavali she realized there were was no better place better than Udhavum Ullangal, to fulfill her mission to save lives, alleviate suffering, and maintain human dignity. She works in a blood bank while leading one of the key programs of UU, the Nellai Cancer Center and manages all the activities related to organizing awareness sessions, cancer prevention screening camps. She is also leading one of the most important projects of UU, which is the upcoming affordable holistic cancer hospital in Tirunelveli. Prema’s selfless efforts and working tirelessly amidst the younger generation of volunteers in UU, have earned her a place in their hearts. Many of the teen volunteers admire her work and look up to her as their mentor and are happy working work with her in UU.

R Santhanam

Santhanam is a humanitarian by thought and has extensive experience in this field which could be a difficult task. However, for him helping others being a key ambition, he has worked extensively in in the government’s Public works department in several key projects. He had visited an orphanage during a festival, where the kids were joyous with just being provided a meal only of porridge, when the rest of India was celebrating. This contrasting reality, sparked a deep sense of realization in him, making him to help the underprivileged children. When he happened to interact with the Founder – Shankar Mahadevan, he was excited to see that they had a common vision and joined Udhavum Ullangal. Ever since, Mr. Santhanam leads the management of mentorship and education projects and is instrumental for leading UU’s initiatives in education and mentoring children in collaboration and partnership with schools, other NGO’s and corporates.

M Ramesh Kumar

Ramesh is a Board Member, Chief Financial & Operating Officer (CFO & COO) of eNoah solutions Inc. a Chennai based MNC. In his role as COO, while he was looking at a partner to deliver their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals, he was introduced to Udhavum Ullangal Founder – Shankar Mahadevan and after hearing from him on how we can contribute for the greater good of the society with a few hundred rupees, he decided to be engaged with Udhavum Ullangal. Ramesh has led the team through some incredible changes like advocating the organizations programs, creating visibility through different forums and is instrumental in formulating successful collaboration by UU with few of the leading global corporates. He is instrumental in making the Cancer Hospital a reality.
