About Anandha Deepavali
Anandha Deepavali is one such initiative that has been successfully conducted for the last 26 years. A well-planned event that starts by bringing underprivileged children from around 20 homes under one roof, providing them with custom-fit clothes and a delicious meal, to entertain them for the whole day. The kids are provided with accessories as well, from necklaces to earrings and bracelets made by the women trained under the “Skill Development Programme” of Udhavum Ullangal. Volunteers from different Corporate spend their day performing and dancing with the children. They distribute clothes, help the little ones to change into their new clothes, take care of their needs and make them enjoy Deepavali well ahead of the actual festival day. This whole process may seem simple, but the efforts behind it are noteworthy.
How Anandha Deepavali Born?
Udhavum Ullangal’s spirit first found expression through Anandha Deepavali, even before the organisation was formally created. In 1998, a few like-minded friends felt that while Deepavali is a special day for so many, it was not special for everyone. In particular, it meant no joy or celebration for deprived and disadvantaged children.

Spirit of Humanity
The majority of the volunteers are working professionals who are between the age group of 25-35. They are the backbone of Anandha Deepavali. They start working a good 100 days prior to the big day, collecting data on the number of children from each orphanage, visiting them to take measurements and preferences of colours, shopping according to the children’s choice and then comes the most difficult task, sorting them and packing them in an efficient manner.
Anandha Deepavali 2023
Anandha Deepavali is more than just charity; it’s a heartwarming family gathering for both volunteers and children. On this day, children are provided with custom-fit clothing, a delectable meal, and accessories crafted by women trained under the Skill Development Program of Udhavum Ullangal. Corporate volunteers also actively engage with the children for this event, ensuring they experience the joy of Deepavali ahead of the festival. Over the years, an unbreakable bond has formed between these volunteers and the children they serve. For many, this event has become their true Deepavali, a day filled with joy and happiness.
Behind this seemingly simple event lies tremendous effort from dedicated volunteers, most of whom are working professionals who begin their preparations 100 days in advance. They meticulously collect data on the number of children from each orphanage, visit them for measurements and colour preferences, and then shop according to the children’s choices. The challenging task of sorting and packing efficiently is also part of their responsibility, ensuring that each child receives the right attire on the big day.
