Sanitation Facilities for Girl Students
When it comes to providing proper sanitation facilities to girl students, schools in rural India still have a long way to go. We are aware of instances, where girls often drop out of school when they reach puberty because of the embarrassment and the lack of private places to maintain their dignity. Despite the government having launched the SwachhVidyalaya initiative under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, there are still rural schools in India with no separate toilet facilities for girls. A lack of access to water and toilets can seriously interfere with children’s education. Intending to help this drive by the Government, UdhavumUllangal partnered with eNoahiSolution in August 2021 and initiated the construction of washroom facilities for girls studying in Pallavaram Municipality Hr Sec School, Hasthinapuram, Chennai. The construction of the washrooms were completed in December 2021, helping 582 girl students in the school, and has been much appreciated by the School Management and well received by the girl students. UU truly believes that a sense of hygiene will instill self-confidence in girl students. During the inauguration of the washroom facility, 1000 notebooks were issued to 477 students.
